MLAS
The Mexican and Latin American Society (MLAS), is a student organization in the University of Sheffield that plays as a bridge among the Latin-American culture, the Anglo-Saxon culture and other cultures from around the world.
MLAS was founded in 1994 and is one of the active Latin American societies in the UK. We have around 400 members. While most are PhD students, members also include university staff, academics, journalists, and researches.
Our members are involved in large sport activities such as football soccer, basketball, cycling, hiking, climbing, and running. Also, we have multiples social activities such as parties, dancing events, and our weekly conversation club where you can practice, learn and socialise. As well do not forget that are involve in large multidisciplinary field of work.
MLAS links us within a special friendly community; we are happy to do more pleasant to stay in Sheffield and provide educational and social assistance, please feel free to join us and help us to expand our Latino American culture.

Aims of MLAS
- To provide a mean of social integration for Mexican and Latin-American students towards the British culture.
- To motivate representative activities of the Mexican and Latin-American culture before the University of Sheffield.
- To motivate the academic development of the Mexican and Latin-American students in the University of Sheffield.
- To act as a liaison between students in Sheffield and Mexican authorities or agencies (i.e., The Mexican Embassy, CONACyT).
- To provide a connection with other Mexican and Latin-American societies in UK.
- To motivate the integration of non Latin-American students into the Society.
- To promote the integration of all the members through social, sport and cultural events.
- To promote the Mexican and Latin American culture through social and cultural events.
- To share the acquired knowledge and experiences between Mexican and Latinamerican students and fellow citizens.
